Decan: 20°- 29° Capricorn
Dates: 11-19 January 2025
Ruling planet/luminary: Sol
Zodiac sign: Capricorn ~ Cardinal Earth 🜃
Tarot card: 4 of Pentacles
Golden Dawn Title: Lord of Earthly Power
Associated Major Arcana:
The Sun (Sol) & The Devil (Capricorn)
Save with wisdom & spend with love
The images of The Sun and The Devil here look like ‘start’ and ‘stop’ signs. Openness and enthusiastic forward action met with a block and limitations. So, when you see the 4 of Pentacles you might ask yourself what’s stopping you? Who is holding up ‘the hand’?
Sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly, we can cling too tightly to people, possessions, or power. This grasping blocks the natural flow of energy—disrupting the exchange of love, vitality, and, in the case or material wealth, the transformative potential of money.
Money, at its core, is energy made tangible. When guided by wisdom, love, and compassion, it can be a force for good. Yet, we’re also aware of its darker side—the harm it can cause in our everyday lives and out in the wider world when hoarded or misused.
The 4 of Pentacles invites us to reflect on our relationships with money, possessions, and the people around us. It challenges us to act with greater integrity, managing these aspects of life with an open heart to allow energy to flow freely.
It also encourages us to question the distribution of wealth and power in our world. Where do we fit within these dynamics, and how can we, as individuals and communities, work to create greater equity for those who have the least?
As with previous Decans, I have found it useful to look at some keywords to see what ideas they may spark about the current Decan of Capricorn III.

The shadow side of Capricorn
The 4 of Pentacles highlights the sometimes unyielding and over-ambitious nature of Capricorn. It appears that the Sun energy is being stored not here, rather than distributed. But for what purpose? To what end? Could it be that the 4 of Pentacles is about having the means… and asking ‘to what end?’ And do the ends justify the means.
Prompts for 4 of Pentacles ~ Sun in Capricorn
When you are ‘closed down’ or in a ‘lacking’ state…
Ask yourself:
- How can you focus on abundance rather than scarcity?
- Where can you offer help and comfort to those who need it?
- Are you closed-off in your relationships? Emotionally guarded?
- How can you approach with honesty, and an open heart?
- How can you be more fearless in sharing your energy and ‘wealth’ and communicating your emotions?
Observations and synchronicities ~ Capricorn III
I’m making space here to return to over the coming days of Capricorn III to add any thoughts, ideas and synchronicities as they arise…
I have been conserving energy for the last couple of months. A combination of getting sick before the Christmas break and a packed work schedule brought it home to me just how precarious it is to be a self-employed team of one. When I get busy and I kind of shut down certain activities in order to keep the whole show on the road.
In this case it was social media. I stopped posting and now I am completely out of the flow and not quite sure how to get back in it. This also brings up for me the question of my commitment and consistency – two things that we all know are key to online success. So, I need to get back into the flow. Let’s see what Aquarius season brings.

Decan: 10°- 19° Capricorn
Dates: 1-11 January 2025
Ruling planet/luminary: Mars
Zodiac sign: Capricorn ~ Cardinal Earth 🜃
Tarot card: 3 of Pentacles
Golden Dawn Title: Lord of Works
Associated Major Arcana:
The Tower (Mars) & The Devil (Capricorn)
When inspired action meets ambition
… creativity finds the opportunity and space to flow and take form.
On the face of it, when seen together, The Tower and The Devil might present an ominous front. Two ‘scary’ cards together. Yet astrologically, Mars is exalted in Capricorn meaning all that fiery energy may be productively expressed through discipline and hard work. Mars represents action, drive, and passion, while Capricorn brings structure, ambition, and stamina. Together, they represent the perfect blend of inspired effort and determined follow-through.
This card reminds me of the famous quote:
Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.
~ Pablo Picasso
In the 3 of Pentacles, we see collaboration and hard work, perhaps the start of a new project, job or commission. This card invites us to be open to or even actively on the lookout for new opportunities.
Teamwork, creativity and discipline
When highly motivated individuals with clear goals get together to collaborate, creativity can flourish. This is what we see in the 3 of Pentacles. Mars in Capricorn ensures the structure and discipline required to turn ideas into solid form.
As with previous Decans, I have found it useful to look at some keywords to see what ideas they may spark about the current Decan of Capricorn II.

The shadow side of ambition
The 3 of Pentacles is generally a very ‘positive’ card, yet the influence of the Devil and the Tower must also give a cautionary warning about the shadow side of unchecked ambition and overly assertive, even aggressive, action. The results can be overconsumption, materialism, and unhealthy power dynamics. Mars in Capricorn in the 3 of Pentacles serves as a reminder to channel Mars’ energy positively with wisdom and intention for good.
Prompts for 3 of Pentacles ~ Mars in Capricorn
When you are embarking on a new project or collaboration
Ask yourself:
- Who are your team and how do you relate and collaborate with them to achieve your joint goals?
- What new projects do you have coming up and how can you approach them with openness and flexibility?
- What are you building/creating and how is that aligned with the highest good?
- Where can you seek out new opportunities for collaboration?
- How do you get your creative juices flowing?
- Is there anyone who could benefit from your expertise and guidance?
- Do you give credit where credit is due?
Observations and synchronicities ~ Capricorn II
I’m making space here to return to over the coming days of Capricorn I to add any thoughts, ideas and synchronicities as they arise…
This is my first Decan walk and the first time my focus on the first day of the calendar year has been on the 3 of Pentacles in particular. What a perfect card to start the year off! I don’t really believe in New Year resolutions. I prefer the idea that every new day brings the opportunity to reset intentions or recommit to healthy choices, aligned actions and the discipline and stamina to follow through. This card embodies that idea on any day of the year.

Here’s to another trip around the Sun!
by StillSmallVoiceTarot | Dec 22, 2024 | Decan Walk 2024/25
Decan: 0°- 09° Capricorn
Dates: 22-31 December 2024
Ruling planet/luminary: Jupiter
Zodiac sign: Capricorn ~ Cardinal Earth 🜃
Tarot card: 2 of Pentacles
Golden Dawn Title: Lord of Harmonious Change
Associated Major Arcana:
The Wheel (Jupiter) & The Devil (Capricorn)
Seeking balance amidst the chaos
The first decan of Capricorn, influenced by expansive, sometimes excessive Jupiter, marks the cusp of the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and runs to the end of the calendar year on 31 December. Another year, and another spin of the wheel, over.
Represented by the 2 of Pentacles in Tarot, here is a prompt to seek balance amid all the end of year chaos and avoid over-consumption and some of the more unhealthy persuits of the season – a lesson from the Devil.
Looking at the Wheel of Fortune as it turns, events at the outer edge will be moving very fast, with great highs followed by great lows, and the place of greatest stillness is at the centre. When life is ever-changing, ever-expanding, ever spinning, it’s easy to get caught up in the drama of it all, juggling many balls at once, we are reminded to seek that place of stillness to regain our equilibrium.
This card speaks of cycles, opportunities and inevitable change. The Capricornian attributes of adaptability and resourcefulness are what is needed to cope with such change.
As with previous Decans, I have found it useful to look at some keywords to see what ideas they may spark about the current Decan of Capricorn I.
Jupiter ~ attributes
- Expansion
- Growth
- Good fortune
- Luck
- Abundance

- Resourceful

Caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea
The imagery of a person juggling on the 2 of Pentacles hints at the challenge of finding balance in the wider world beyond our own personal priorities. Humanity’s challenge is to find peace on earth and to balance economic progress with environmental care to achieve sustainable growth. The ambition of man needs to be tempered by a commitment to manage Earth’s resources responsibly.
The Wheel of Fortune represents natural cycles – the rhythms of seasons, ecosystems, and life itself. Man has disrupted these patterns and the Devil reminds us of the perils of unchecked consumption and materialism. This is Capricorn’s shadow. It challenges us to confront the systems driving environmental degradation and to break free from exploitative habits. This archetype reminds us that ambition without accountability risks entrapment in destructive cycles.
Together, the Wheel and Devil, sit with the 2 of Pentacles and highlight humanity’s delicate task: navigating and balancing economic and ecological needs with integrity. Releasing harmful patterns and embracing solutions that nurture both humanity and the planet.
Prompts for 2 of Pentacles ~ Jupiter in Capricorn
When you feel like life is a constant balancing act.
Ask yourself:
- Are you currently suffering from overwhelm?
- Life admin? Work? People?
- What things are beyond your control?
- And how can you deal with letting go of them?
- How can you find balance in your life: work, home, relationships?
