Today, I am continuing with the creative #Actctober2021 Tarot Challenge hosted by @GlitterbyInk and @LivingJivaWell

The prompt: Today, how will I act with generosity?
Deck: The Urban Tarot by Robin Scott

Conscious draw – 6 of Pentacles

A popular choice for today’s word prompt generosity, the 6 of Pentacles is the card of reciprocity in the Tarot deck. It speaks of giving and receiving, kindness and charity.

This card also represents success, physical and material equilibrium and comfort… of being in that place where you can comfortably afford to consider the comfort and wellbeing of others. The 6th Sephira on the Tree of Life is Tiferet – where we experience harmony, balance, compassion, openheartedness.

In the earthy realm of Pentacles, the 6 represents compassion in action. Measured and thoughtfully directed acts of generosity. The healthy channelling of loving-kindness and abundance that flow from Chesed – the 4th Sephira – speaking of which…

For the second card, I let the deck decide. Which of course it did with great synchronicity.

Unconscious draw – 4 of Pentacles

The 4 of Pentacles shows us what can happen when we restrict the flow of loving-kindness when we become too measured or overly concerned with what and where we are spending in terms of love, energy, time, money and charity. Essentially when we are withholding and restricting the flow.

The 4 of Pentacles can be a warning that while it is good to be prudent, to stay safe and to save, we should not withhold our love or compassion. Nor should we hold on too tight to protect ourselves, our ‘things’, our ‘stuff’.

This card reminds us that the value of wealth and power is in what we do with it. Spent well, money does much good in the world, but It does no good just accumulating under the mattress or simply accumulating in fat cat bank accounts (making fat cats fatter).

4 and 6 of Pentacles, The Urban Tarot

Together the 6 and the 4 of Pentacles remind us of the Why? of working, earning, saving and accumulating.

I work to earn money, so I can put it in the bank, but why?

So that I can feed myself and my child and afford a home and utilities, yes but why?

So that I can provide a comfortable life, free of material hardship and worry (and that’s the 5 of Pentacles right there ?), so what?

So that I am free to live and love with an open heart… to give freely of myself, time, energy, love, assistance.

Free to pay it back and to pay it forward with generosity.

And at the heart of generosity is gratitude. Which, at the halfway point of the #Actober challenge brings us back to day 1 and the prompt of Gratitude.

Generosity and gratitude go hand in hand. They feed into each other in a virtuous circle of abundance.

So, how will I act with generosity today?

Today, I am grateful for my work, the support of my family and friends, my comfortable home, and the freedom and resources they provide me to be and do what I need to for myself and the people in my life who rely on me. I am grateful for the freedom to pay back into the circle of abundance by giving generously of my time, energy and love where my time, energy and love are needed.

Today’s post was brought to you by the 6 and 4 of Pentacles from The Urban Tarot by Robin Scott

Note to self

As I am at my halfway point here, I realise that what is required now is a little more actual action on my part.

I’ve been having a lovely time waxing spiritual and affirmational on all the #Actober prompts that I’ve cherry-picked from the list.

All of this is well and good… it’s served to get me writing and exploring the cards in new depth (for me) but at this point, I’m questioning what steps I have actually taken, what action have I taken to be and do?

If I’m honest with myself, not many and not much.

Just a note to self…
