Today, I am continuing with the creative #Actctober2021 Tarot Challenge hosted by @GlitterbyInk and @LivingJivaWell

The prompt: Today, how will I act with balance?
Deck: The Urban Tarot by Robin Scott

Conscious draw – Art XIV

Otherwise known as Temperance, this card speaks of balance and harmony, the choosing and mixing of elements – opposites often – to artfully create something new. Like an artist, mixes paint on a palette to find the perfect colour or experiments with different materials to see what effect they produce.

In this particular rendition, we see the blending of the old and new, traditional and contemporary, as the original Rider Waite artwork is incorporated into a more modern urban setting – where we encounter an angelic graffiti artist, spray can in hand, in some dark, neon-lit city backstreet.

From the mural on the wall two streams of paint, red and white, fall and flow and merge together before feeding into a pool in the foreground, where they blend in a whirlpool. At the pool’s edge grow daffodils, springing from the pavement.  A splash of colour and life where you might not usually expect to find it.

Finding balance in life is an art, something that is achieved through trial and error. It takes patience, moderation and often restraint. But at the same time, you may have to put yourself out there a little bit to find it.

And when we get it right it can be magical. Alchemy.

Sometimes just changing one small thing – a habit perhaps – in our lives can make all the difference. Bringing us back to balance. Restoring equilibrium. Not such a small thing for Librans like me.

And what does it take to tip that balance?

For the second card, I let the deck decide.

Unconscious draw – Princess of Swords

Following up on the Pages of yesterday’s ‘curiosity’ prompt, this bright, intelligent, outspoken young thing encourages us to stay inquisitive and interested in the world around us.

To stay engaged and take action and ‘be the change’, when that’s what’s required.

In order to find that magical combination, you have to be curious about what the outcome might be of mixing certain elements together. Be open to experimentation and new ways of being, thinking and acting.

There is a powerful self-care message in the Temperance card. The Angel of Temperance asks us to pay attention to our bodies and the messages they might be sending – offering a warning against excess or lack in certain areas of our lives.

Are you getting enough sleep? Eating healthily? Drinking enough water?
Did you go for the walk today? Or make that dentist’s appointment?
Are you watching too much rubbish on TV or spending too much time on screens and social media?

No, yes, no, no, no, no, yes… erm yes.

I haven’t always scored very highly on the self-care scale… even when I know what’s good for me. It’s a lesson to be learned.

We all know physical, mental and emotional wellbeing depend on finding a healthy balance – work and life, spiritual and material, relationship with self and others.

We cannot take care of others if we do not first take care of ourselves (secure your own oxygen mask before helping others – you know the drill) and we cannot truly love others unless we first love and accept ourselves.

So, how will I act with balance today?

In order to create balance in my life today, I stay curious about healthier ways of being, thinking and acting and I choose to take loving care of myself… mind and body, heart and soul.
