First impressions
A colourful card of joyful celebration.
What is happening in the card?
Outside the city walls a party is taking place. In the background we see people in many different coloured robes, perhaps from far flung places, have come together to dance in celebration. In the foreground a canopy of flowers has been constructed, held up by four staves, or wands, perhaps this is a wedding celebration or a homecoming. Two figures are approaching carrying more garlands above their heads. This is a scene of great happiness and celebration.
How can we relate to this card?
The 4 of Wands encourages us to take a moment to appreciate the good things in life. It is at this moment that we can reflect and celebrate how far we have come and what we have achieved to this point – a stable, harmonious foundation from which to keep moving forward.
This could represent reaching an important age or life stage – a graduation, a work achievement, an important relationship milestone. Or it could simply be an appreciation of life’s pleasures and blessings.

My personal experiences of this card
It’s very easy, when you’re busy and ‘in the zone’, to move straight from one thing to the next without taking the time to reflect and acknowledge what you’ve achieved.
For me, the 4 of Wands is a reminder to take a well-earned break after working hard. Getting together with friends and family to celebrate the wins and the milestones, however major or minor, is always good for my soul. It feels like spreading the love and I come away with a sense of having been ‘topped up’. It’s the fuel that keeps me moving on with the day-to-day and with challenges in life and work.
