First impressions
Here is a woman, a Queen, sitting confidently and unapologetically in her power. And I say more power to her!
What is happening in the card?
Sitting front-on to us on her throne of lions, the Queen of Wands sits with her legs wide and a straight back as she surveys the land. Her gaze is directed to her left.
At her feet sits a black cat, wide-eyed and alert. The Queen wears a crown and robes of gold with a white cloak around her shoulders which is clasped at her chest.
In her right hand, she holds her staff or Wand and in the other a large, bright sunflower. This flower, known for the way it tracks the sun across the sky, here is a symbol of how in tune this Queen is with her masculine side.
How can we relate to this card?
This queen has a fiery power. A strong masculine energy. She is a force to be reckoned with. Do not cross her and do not hurt the ones she loves, for she is fierce and fiercely loyal, like a mother lion.
The Queen of Wands has tamed her wilder side, as indicated by lions adorning her throne and the presence of the watchful cat at her feet, but she wouldn’t hesitate to unleash the lioness within to protect her own.

Message & affirmations
I am a strong, confident, independent individual. I am a brave, loyal and generous friend and fierce, loving and supportive mother. Every day I show up, stand up and speak up for myself, my daughter, my friends and family, for the vulnerable and those without a voice. I do so with courage and compassion, and with passion and drive.
My personal experiences of this card
The Tarot Queens are brought together under the rule of the most powerful female archetype of them all, The Empress. The ultimate, the original feminist.
I love this Queen because she represents to me all the fierce women in my life who have supported and protected me and lifted me up when I needed it.
She is also the strong, fierce lioness of a mother that I try to be when my daughter needs me to be. This is not my usual way of operating, so the Queen of Wands represents a challenge to me. A challenge to step up.
I particularly love the Queen of Wands from the Thoth deck, who I featured in a recent IG post below. I call her the Queen of as Dangerous as F*ck! – a towering force of righteous feminist truth and fury. Inside her circle of protection you feel all the warmth, support and safety she provides. To be anywhere else is to be out in the cold.
