First impressions
Stern and formal. A very recognisable image of Lady Justice.
What is happening in the card?
Lady Justice, in robes of red and gold, sits on a stone dais in front of a purple veil that hangs between two pillars (echoing the visual composition of The High Priestess). She has a crown on her head and her right hand she holds the sword of truth and in her left, the scales of justice.
How can we relate to this card?
We experience the energy of the Justice card when we have a decision to make about the right way to act in a situation.
Justice reminds us that our actions have consequences – a ripple effect – and that we have a responsibility to act with balance, objectivity and integrity. To be fair and just. To be on the right side of history.
However, we are also reminded that nothing is ever just black and white. Just as nobody is all good or all bad. Being on the side of the right is not always cut and dried.

Message & affirmations
Today, I show up, stand up and speak up for myself, for my loved ones, and for the vulnerable and those without a voice. I show up with honesty and integrity, courage and compassion, patience and faith.
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.“
~ Mahatma Gandhi
“Justice is conscience, not a personal conscience, but the conscience of the whole of humanity. Those who clearly recognize the voice of their own conscience usually recognize also the voice of justice.“
~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.“
~ Winston Churchill
My personal experiences of this card
When Justice shows up in my cards I take a moment to consider the integrity of my actions and examine my motivations. Am I making choices that are aligned with my values? Can I look at myself in the mirror and hold my head up? And if not, what am I going to do about it?
Events, situations & readings
In a relationship spread:
Justice calls on you to examine your intentions and motivations in a relationship. Are you acting with integrity? Are you being fair? Is the relationship out of balance?
In a work, business or finance spread:
Justice again encourages you to consider the integrity of your actions – or the actions of another. This card can also draw your attention to legal matters such as contracts.
Reversed:
It may be that you are judging a situation or a person – yourself even – too harshly. Perhaps you are struggling with a moral dilemma, resisting a choice to be made – you know what the right thing is to do, but that does not make it the easy path to take.
People & interaction with other cards
With other cards that represent a choice of some sort, Justice indicates the importance of integrity in the situation.
