First impressions

There’s something rich and reassuring about the Knight of Pentacles.

What is happening in the card?

In all the other Knights of the Tarot we see some kind of forward movement. In contrast, The Knight of Pentacles sits in a very relaxed manner holding a shining Pentacle in his right hand. His mount, a shining black stallion, stands stock still.

Yet there is a dynamism about the Knight of Pentacles. It’s just less obvious than in his brother knights.

He wears a red tunic over his shining armour which is matched in colour by the reins, bridle and other tack worn by his horse. A plume of feathers, or is it a bunch grapes adorns his helmet.

Standing on higher ground the Knight and his steed survey the gently undulating land before them – perhaps a ploughed field. There are oak trees on the horizon and oak leaves on the head piece of the horse’s bridle.

He’s not going anywhere for the moment. Purposefully still.

How can we relate to this card?

Ruled by The Chariot the Knights are the action heroes of the Tarot Court, riding out into the world bearing the action and energy of their suit with them.

The Knight of Wands so driven and passionate, the Knight of Cups on a quest for love and the Knight of Swords on a mission to prove himself to the world. The ‘bad boys’ of Tarot.

But where some fools may rush in, The Knight of Pentacles is in no such hurry. He is calm, considered and relaxed by comparison, but no less focused. Slow and steady wins this race.

He is methodical and meticulous with an eye for detail. You can rely on him to get things done – according to the schedule of course – and his is a great energy to channel if you have a big project that you need to get over the finish line.

He may highlight an aspect of your personality that you need to be aware of or bring forward. He could also represent someone in your life who brings the solid earthy energy described above.

If you have the patience, give this Knight a chance and you’ll find it a rich and rewarding experience.

Message & affirmations

Today, and every day, I step out into the world with patience and faith. I focus on my goals, I see the steps that I need to take in order to to achieve them and I take the required action to get things done.

My personal experiences of this card

I like the Knight of Pentacles, a lot. He represents the Earthy aspect of Fire and I’m sure that of all the spunky young Knights of Tarot, he’d make the best lover. Patient, sensual, generous. Focused on a satisfactory outcome…

I wonder, if you were to run a quick audit of past loves, whether that might ring true.

I particularly like the Knight of Pentacles from The Light Seer’s Tarot. He walks barefoot across a field alongside his horse, feeling the grass between his toes. He seems so relaxed and comfortable in his own skin. The image below is taken from a reading I did for a client who was in a dilemma over two men in her life. The Knight of Swords and the Knight of Pentacles showed up in the spread. The first seems to be off in search of some other goal or challenge (literally back-turned, running in the other direction)… the latter seems to invite you to walk alongside him – just as his gentle, trusted horse does.

Events, situations & readings

In a relationship spread:
The Knight of Pentacles in a love and relationships spread could represent a lover or yourself within a relationship… solid, trustworthy, reliable, sexy, earthy and grounded.

He could also represent your brother, father or a supportive friend.

In a work/career spread:
Where others bring the ideas and the inspiration, The Knight of Pentacles gets the job done. He focuses on the intended outcome and can see and implement the steps you need to take to get there. When he appears in a work or career reading he can help you pay attention to the details of a job so that you get things right the first time.

The Knight of Pentacles is also good with money.

Reversed:
When reversed, the Knight of Pentacles may indicate that you need to pick up the pace a bit. And perhaps not get bogged down in the detail.

People & interaction with other cards

In reading with other Knights, you may have travel or a journey on your mind. The Knight of Pentacles earthy energy provides a good balance for the other more ‘flighty’ knights.

With The Chariot we can see the Knight of Pentacles as a calming influence in the face of change. He takes things in his stride.
