First impressions
This young individual appears so poised – his stance is almost balletic. The way they hold their sword seems somehow guarded, possessive even.
What is happening in the card?
An elegant youth stands poised in a windswept landscape, long hair flying in the breeze. They are dressed in a yellow and mauve with red boots.
The Page holds a sword in both hands to the left and looks back over their right shoulder. Their facial expression is serious, somehow challenging.
Clouds are scudding across the sky and up high we see birds in flight.
How can we relate to this card?
Pages often relate to our own inner child or young people in our lives.
The Page or Princess of Swords may represent our curiosity in the world and new ideas. And our preparedness to articulate and fight for what we believe to be true – youthful rebellion.
This Page is open to new ideas and challenges, bright, articulate and quick thinking. An excellent student or apprentice and often to be found with a book in hand.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.”

Message & affirmations
Today, and every day, I step out into the world with an open heart and a curious mind. I embrace new ideas and ways of thinking. I change the world with my thoughts, words and actions.
My personal experiences of this card
For me, the Page of Swords is the challenging, inquisitive child or teenager who, when the grownups are chatting, misses nothing. Allowing nothing to simply go over their head, they question everything and drive you mad with those questions. There’s no fobbing this child off with vagueness or distractions. Nor can you expect them to accept or believe something just because you said so. They need to understand and to know – what, how and why.
You have to admire their unending curiosity and undeniable intelligence. You wonder just how far that bright, questioning mind will take them in life. And into what trouble it might lead them.
My particular favourites, from the decks I own, are the Princesses of Swords that we see below standing their ground and challenging the status quo from The Thoth, The Slow Tarot and the Urban Tarot.
Pages, or Princesses, can be viewed as different aspects of The Fool. They are the young and the curious characters of the Tarot deck.
Events, situations & readings
In a relationship spread:
The page or princess in a love and relationships spread might suggest a new love connection or a message from someone you love. The Page of Swords prompts you to be curious about love and relationships.
In a work/career spread:
The Page of Swords encourages you to ask questions at work and to be prepared to learn. They could also represent news about a job or academic results.
It is important for this page in particular to do work or study that gives them a sense of purpose. Perhaps this is a prompt for you to ask yourself if you find your current occupation meaningful.
People & interaction with other cards
With The Fool or the Ace of Swords, the Page of Swords encourages us to be open to ideas and avenues to learn. They are truth seekers, like the rest of the Court of Swords.
The Fool also reminds us that the Tarot Pages lack maturity and in the case of the Page of Swords this may indicate someone who comes across as a bit of a ‘know-it-all’. The all-important ‘knowing what you don’t know’ is an important step on the path to maturity… and this page may not be quite there yet.
